Lab Journal: Omni animal- Leatherback Sea Turtle

We are required to keep a journal on our learning experience. This is my first time to do it. But I find it interesting to draw on lab experiences to connect what I've learnt.

This week is about constructionism, I get to familiar with Mindstorms (1980), by Seymour Papert. It is detailed about his outlook on Piaget's theories about concrete and formal operational thinking. While in the lab session, we are required to design and build an Omni-Animal by using laser cutter to prototype two- and three-dimensional objects.

Beyond Bits and Atoms

I first found out Beyond Bits and Atoms(BBA) at Teachers College from a friend of mine. Students have to attend both a theory-oriented class and a practice-focused lab.

During the whole semester, we explore constructivism, constructionism, and critical pedagogy, as well as embodied and situated cognition, the role of media and tools, representations and models in learning, and theories of technology design.

Some of my classmates are graphic designers, teachers and even our TA has a background in mechanical engineerging. It's so delighted to be connectted with people from diffient backgrounds and share unique perspectives.
